Going Green?

Ok, so I know this blog is about my children, but in this day and age it seems impossible to not be bombarded with "Go Green," "Be Sustainable," "Shrink Your Footprint." So, I have been doing a lot of reading, thinking and soul searching. Yes, I would love to help out! My husband would love to help out, actually he'd love to do more and be a full fledge farmer, but let's get back to reality. We have four kids living in two different cities (we are a modern family), very limited time, and are constantly strapped for money, owning two houses because of that silly market crash and can't seem to sell either. So, basically, we are like everyone else. My question then is: Besides changing our light bulbs, recycling when possible and carrying our own bags to the store (which we have done) how in the heck are we supposed to do this? I have read the NoImpactMan blog and it is impressive. He made no trash, used no electricity, used no cars!!!!!, and ate completely local. Again, how are we supposed to do this?

Let me break it down and tell you why I am on such a rampage currently, because I just went to the grocery with my twins. I had in my mind that I would buy healthy and as much local as possible. It is March! Not a lot around good 'ol VA in the supermarket in March that wasn't shipped from CA or Mexico. I don't have the liberty to just eat less and be picky, I have children to feed. They are great eaters, but they are still all under 4. Couldn't find local yogurt and I don't have time, space or know how to make it. So. I left feeling completely overwhelmed with $100 of non local food, although I did buy the big container of yogurt instead of those really convenient individually wrapped Yo Baby Yogurts that I love.

My husband is actually starting a blog about our journey trying to be as eco friendly as possible, but he won't let me tell you the link yet. :) So, you might hear more about our efforts, but for now, you know I am frustrated. I want to do more, but feel stressed out enough managing the family with modern day conveniences. We shall see where we go from here.
